With only seven games to play Bristol Academy finally get back to Premier League action when they host Doncaster Ladies Belles on Sunday at Almondsbury Town. Since the last time the teams met they have enjoyed mixed fortunes, the visitors used the two nil victory as a turning point and now sit in third place. While Bristol followed up that defeat with a win over Birmingham but since then have lost five games on the bounce. Manager Mark Sampson is looking forward to getting their season back on track with the game their first League game since early December.
"The game on Sunday is the start of the key period in our season and we only have to look at our visitors to see how one result can act as a turning point. Prior to the first game at Donny they had now won a home game and were sitting third from bottom in the League, that day they beat us 2-0 and since then have won every game and now sit in third place. So it just highlights the small margins at this level and how one big performance, one big result can turn a season.
"The recent run of postponed games and rearranged fixtures has been frustrating but we have used the time really well. It has allowed our coaching staff to work hard with the team to make adjustments to our style of play which I feel will make a key difference during this final stage of the season. The players have also played in some reserve team games and our internationals played on Wednesday so a lack of match practice wont be an issue come Sunday.
"We are now entering the final phase of the season and with three home games left these can be crucial to how we end up this season. We know we face seven "Cup Final's" between now and the end of the season and we are more determined than ever to give everything to make sure we finish this season with no regrets and can be proud of our efforts.
"For the first time on a long time we have not far off a fully fit squad to pick from and the partnerships we have through the team Sunday are strong and I am looking forward to seen the team implement the game plan we have developed over the last few weeks on the training pitch."
