Bristol hope to play their Fourth Round FA Cup tie against West Ham at the third time of asking on Sunday at their Almondsbury Town home. Prior to the tie manager Mark Sampson explained how the FA Cup is always a special competition and how the team have coped with the recent postponments and weather conditions.
"It is always frustrating when you have games called off, any football player trains hard to play at the end of the week and when that game is not there it can be very frustrating. However we have worked hard to make sure our intensity has been maintained with regular training so I don't believe the recent lack of matches will have a major impact on our performance Sunday.
"The FA Cup is always a special competition to play in and every season you want to do everything you can to stay in the competition for as long as possible. To do that you need to completly focus on one game at a time and if we are not fully concentrated and focussed on West Ham we will get punished by a good team. Though West Ham are in the League below us we know they have good players and are well organised, this will make it an extremely difficult game for us, and a challenge for which we must be ready."
On how the squad have been progressing and the injuries in the camp Sampson explained some of his views on the current situation;"Injury wise both Jaz Mathews and Connie Short won't be ready for Sunday but are coming on well and it will be a big boost to have both of them available in the near future. Bar those two, the injury situation will not affect selection, at the moment the team we have in mind for Sunday all eleven are fit so we will have the luxury on Thursday of working with the team that will cross the white line for us Sunday.
After the performance and defeat at Arsenal it was clear we need to freshen things up and we have some young players who deserve a chance to show what they can do. Some of our youngsters have trained fantastically well over the last month and shown they have the maturity to be given a chance at this level. Sunderland are top of the League at the moment and have shown what can be achieved with a young group of players that are determined to be successful. I have faith in our young players and now is the time for us to let them show what they can do."
